5-21-Medicare-Coverage-and-Chiropractic-Care

At Advantage Chiropractic Clinic, we look forward to aiding your ailments naturally and without surgery. Medicare will cover some of your chiropractic care, but it may be handled differently than some of your other medical treatments.

Under Medicare Part B, Medicare only covers the cost of chiropractic adjustments designed to help correct vertebral subluxation, which happens when the bones of the spinal column lose their normal motion and position. However, with a Medicare Replacement plan your coverage may differ from traditional Medicare.

To determine whether you have a vertebral subluxation and are therefore covered with Medicare, you will need to schedule an examination. Medicare also requires that you undergo an examination.

For Medicare to pay for your adjustments, they must be deemed “medically necessary.” This means they must relate directly to your specific health complaint and must propose to lead to functional improvements. A functional improvement is indicated by a restored ability to turn, bend, walk, sleep and perform your daily activities.

When you’ve returned to your pre-injury levels of activity or when improvement has stopped, your Medicare coverage will likely also stop. Medicare does not cover chiropractic care used for maintenance or prevention purposes. However, many of our patients comment that they feel so much better and see the advantages of continued care which prompts them to continue care even without Medicare coverage. While they may be covered by other supplemental insurance you have, additional procedures that Medicare does not cover include massage, traction or other therapies or adjustments to your wrist, ankle or other extremity.

Advantage Chiropractic Clinic is a Participating Provider with Medicare, meaning you will pay any unmet deductible for the calendar year plus a 20 percent co-payment for each chiropractic adjustment. If you have supplemental or secondary insurance, it may cover some or all of your 20 percent co-payment as well as excluded services.

At Advantage Chiropractic Clinic, we will always recommend care options with your best interest in mind. Whether or not Medicare covers it, we will work with you to make your chiropractic care affordable.
