6-12-From-a-Chiropractic-Perspective

Coupled with physical activity, nutrition effects everything that happens to your body. Knowing this, understand that you have direct control over what you put in your body, which can majorly impact the way you act, think and feel.

Promoting smart nutrition habits ties in with the chiropractic practice. Focusing on nutrition is a way to help your body be its best without using medicine or surgical procedures.

Below are some general rules to live by that we like to offer our patients regarding their lifestyle and nutrition habits.

-Exercise at least 20 to 30 minutes three or four days a week.

-Prepare your own meals as much as possible, including taking lunch to work rather than eating out. That way, you can control your fat and sugar intake and avoid the unhealthy ways in which restaurant food is often prepared.

-Eat more raw foods. Given the choice between a canned vegetable and fresh produce, most often the latter is the best option. Canned foods and even canned vegetables are packed with preservatives like sugar.

-When choosing your food pause a second to think, “Is this something I could find in nature?” Odds are if it was made in a factory it’s too good for you!

-Try to spend more time shopping on the outside perimeter of the grocery store. Most of the food in these areas is perishable and therefore fresh rather than processed.

-Eat organic when possible. Organically grown foods are lower in toxic elements than their non-organic counterparts.

-Water, water, water. You should drink eight to 10 eight-ounce glasses of water a day. Avoid coffee, tea and soft drinks, which dehydrate your body.

-Limit alcohol and avoid smoking. Weve all heard this before, but knowing the science behind it helps. These substances encumber your bodys ability to absorb nutrients from food.

These are only a few best practices to incorporate into your lifestyle to help equip your body with all that it needs to perform to the best of its ability.
